Tacos

  • Birria Estilo Jalisco on a food stall serving a rich birria and tender meat

  • Taquería Orinoco a retro canteen with a simple menu and a varity of salsas to choose from

  • La Casa de Los Tacos in Coyoacán for hand-press tortillas and tacos de birria de res

  • Taqueria Los Huarachines serves mouth-watering al pastor tacos

  • Taqueria El Greco an unassuming taco joint

  • Tacos Hola El Güero a small and traditional fonda specialising in taco guisados

  • Maizajo once a dedicated tortilleria, it has recently also opened as a full-fledged taco restaurant

Chef Elena Reygadas

A list of restaurants / cafés from one of Mexico’s most celebrated chefs:

  • Rosetta - Italian-Mexican fusion dishes

  • Panaderia Rosetta - a must for exquisite pastries and coffee.

  • Lardo and Café Nin are two more of her restaurants which we sadly didn’t get a chance to visit this trip.

  • Fonda Garufa offers a laid-back vibe with its upstairs terrace, perfect for enjoying pastries and our favourite, Chilaquilas, for breakfast.

  • Sōōp Noodle Bar for ramen experts in an intimate space in Roma Norte

  • Sombra a hidden speakeasy located at the back of Sōōp Noodle Bar

  • Vera Pizza an authentic Neapolitan pizza gem

  • Restaurante Castizo serves contemporary Spanish dishes, sharing plates & signature cocktails

  • Madre Café for brunch in a chic restaurant with terrace seating

  • El Moro is the go-to for churros and hot chocolate, boasting eight varieties to choose from. This institution is a must-visit for anyone with a sweet tooth @churreriaelmoro

Mexico City Restaurant Wishlist

Although our Mexico trip was packed with flavourful stops, a few gems remained on our wish list. Here's a peek into where we're headed next time we visit:

  • El Parnita - a buzzy spot, serving up gourmet tacos @el_parnita_roma

  • Pujol - Under the guidance of Chef Enrique Olvera, Pujol has earned two Michelin stars, dazzling diners with innovative Mexican cuisine @pujolrestaurant

International Flavours

  • Pigeon - A Mediterranean marvel with subtle Mexican twists, Pigeon merges two worlds on a plate @pigeonmex

  • Máximo - A French bistro with a farm-to-table ethos @maximobistrot

  • Galanga Thai House - This Thai gem boasts a charming patio setting and a menu with a price point that promises satisfaction without breaking the bank @galangathaihouse

  • YORU - A cosy nook for Japanese cuisine lovers, YORU specialises in handroll sushi @yorusushi

Street Food

  • La Esquina Del Chilaquil - Famous for its torta filled with chilaquilas, this street corner gem is a must-visit for an authentic taste of Mexico City's street food scene. Just remember to bring cash, and arrive early to avoid missing out! (Torta is a Mexican Sandwich)
