Margate, Kent
Margate has long been a favourite for Londoners looking to escape the city, and it’s not hard to see why. Equal parts nostalgic and cool, this coastal town blends old-school seaside charm with independent creativity.
Whether you're after beachside fish and chips, a natural wine, or a morning swim followed by proper Italian pasta, Margate delivers.

Margate Highlights
Stay | Margate House – A stylish, design-led guesthouse that still feels relaxed and welcoming. Just a short walk from the seafront and Old Town.
Drink | Margate Off Licence – One of our favourite spots. Part bottle shop, part bar, and all good vibes. A brilliant place for a pre-dinner drink or an afternoon wind-down.
Brunch | Forts Cafe – Top-quality coffee, sourdough toasties, and a breakfast menu worth getting out of bed for. We’d say it’s our top brunch of 2025 so far (and we’re writing this in June).
Dine
Bottega Caruso – Incredible Italian food made with ingredients from the owner’s family farm in Molise. One of the best meals we’ve had in a long time, highly recommend.
La Cantina – Italian wine bar run by Botegga Caruso.
Sargasso – A small but mighty restaurant right on the harbour arm, serving seasonal plates and fresh seafood.
Peter’s Fish Factory – A classic chippy that delivers exactly what you want from seaside fish and chips.
Relax
Margate Beach – Golden sand, a tidal pool, and that proper British seaside energy
Walpole Bay – A quieter alternative with a huge tidal pool and a free sauna by the beach. It’s a local’s secret/ hidden gem.
Hike | The 2-hour coastal walk to Broadstairs is a beautiful, stunning route along chalk cliffs and hidden bays (if you want to escape the chaos of Margate beach). If you don’t fancy walking back, there’s a direct train from Broadstairs to Margate which only takes 5 minutes.
