The best coffee shops in Lille

Situated in the northernmost region of France, Lille is a vibrant city that serves as a cultural crossroads due to its nearness to Belgium and the Netherlands. It’s also just a 60-minute train from London!

As a former European Capital of Culture in 2004, Lille boasts an array of tourist attractions waiting to be explored. When you're ready for a respite, the city offers an abundance of cafés and coffee shops, perfect for relaxation and rejuvenation. Here's a list of our favourite four.

Tamper! Espresso Bar

Tamper! are passionate about coffee, which is why their roasters ensure their beans rate a minimum of 85/100 on the international 100-point rating technique, which classifies it as ‘speciality coffee.’ They are serving their delicious coffee with fresh and seasonal food that will bring you comfort with every bite, and if you fancy, grab a slice of cake whilst you’re at it.

We got to enjoy their coffee during our trip.

Paddo Café

An Aussie café and ‘new school breakfast club’ serving speciality coffee. Expect eggs and ricotta pancakes on the menu with good energy and coffee. Open daily, with the kitchen closing at 4 pm and doors closing at 5pm.

Shout out to the lovely team at Paddo (named after Paddington, Australia where the French founder spent some time before returning to Lille to open this café) who made us feel so welcome! We couldn’t recommend this place more for a lovely brunch and a great cup of coffee!!

We enjoyed the breakfast bap with bacon and/or halloumi; that onion jam is heavenly.

The Coffee Makers

An espresso bar/tea room since 2013, also offering small breakfast and lunch bites. They have both indoor/ outdoor seating for you to watch the world go by.

CUP

A tiny café situated on Rue des Bouchers. You can grab a brew (tea or coffee) and sweet or savoury treats at Cup. Given the owner, Lucile, is a passionate baker, it would be a shame not to try one of her bakes that are made on-site (yes, there’s just about room for her micro-bakery and a few seats). This is the place to go if you want to find a gluten-free or vegan option but with all the flavour.
