Mountain - Soho, London

Our Rating: ★★★ | £££ - Cosy and stylish fine dining

Mountain, led by Michelin-starred chef Tomos Parry, offers a Basque-inspired menu with a focus on wood-fired cooking, creating bold, smoky flavours.

The restaurant embraces a sharing plate concept, encouraging you to sample a variety of dishes, all showcasing seasonal ingredients and simple, rustic techniques.

Recently awarded a Michelin star, Mountain is a testament to Parry's culinary prowess and his ability to blend British produce with Basque traditions in an innovative, relaxed dining experience.

After much anticipation following our delightful experience at Brat X Climpson’s Arch this weekend, we finally made our way to Mountain in Soho, London.

First impressions and atmosphere

The decor of Mountain is a harmonious blend of wooden elements and nature-inspired touches, creating a setting that's both refined and cosy, fine dining without white tablecloths.

If you get a table upstairs, you get to see the kitchen in action throughout your meal.

The food

The Basque-inspired menu at Mountain is huge; there is a lot to choose from, and it doesn’t delve into descriptions of each dish.

We needed the waiter’s help in putting our order together but eventually settled on three starters, one "big starter," two mains and two sides.

Between 4 of us, this was just about enough food (if we weren’t eating at 9 pm we definitely would have got a couple more plates).

  • Cured dairy beef*

  • Fresh cheese & anchovies*

  • Wild mushrooms

  • Rabbit with braised squid

  • Dover sole*

  • Fallow deer loin chop

  • Wood-fired rice*

  • Smoked potatoes

*our favourites

The house-made fresh cheese and anchovy dish was outstanding, an absolute must-try for any stracciatella lover. The Dover Sole was tender and buttery, though be prepared for a few small bones.

A standout side was the wood-fired rice, hearty and full of flavour, perfectly complementing the mains. The mushrooms and venison dish had such an amazing sauce that we found ourselves asking for extra bread to soak up every last bit.

Service and Final Thoughts

The service throughout the evening was impeccable. Friendly, attentive, and genuinely invested in our dining experience.

They did mess up the order slightly by forgetting one of our starters and cocktail but they rectified it quickly and took the drink off the bill.

The team helped us choose the menu, and staged the dishes to come out in batches that made sense.

We’ll definitely be back and we’ve got our eyes on the lobster caldereta for next time.
