The best cafés in Brooklyn, New York
BROOKLYN may be overshadowed by Manhattan but that doesn’t mean it should be missed on your trip to the big apple.
Here the coffee culture is thriving with cafés passionate for the art of brewing that will leave you craving for more. Here are five of our favourite coffee shops to sip at:
Winner on Franklin
(Franklin Avenue, Prospect Heights)
A café supplying its own bakery goods (its first location was a take out bakery and due to its success they have extended in to other zip codes in Brooklyn). You can get brunch, lunch and dinner here until 7pm but heads up it’s closed on Tuesdays. They serve alcohol too; so you’re on to a real winner here!

Milk bar
(Vanderbilt Avenue, Prospect Heights)
A rustic little, sidewalk café with 2 branches in Brooklyn. Their branch on Vanderbilt Avenue has a few tables out the front that catch the sun during the day. On the menu there is a special cereal milk latte but don’t worry, of course, they have all your classic coffee fixes too. This café is laptop friendly but do remember they are a business; so it is only encouraged for an hour (unless there is no one waiting for a table) and there is a no laptop policy at the weekends (understandably). They serve hot food including soups, sandwiches and eggs for a reasonable price for the area.
R&D foods
(Vanderbilt Avenue, Prospect Heights)
Combines a neighbourhood grocery store with a coffee shop with a secret garden out the back. This charming establishment not only offers locally sourced and artisanal food products but also serves up a mean cup of coffee. Next door they have a R&D Goods store full of homeware that you can swoon over.
Devoción
(Williamsburg, Dumbo, Downtown Brooklyn)
Serves farm to cup coffee (10/10 in our opinion) straight from Colombia. They claim to have the freshest coffee in NYC because they get the beans from their origin to roast within 10 days; meaning your coffee doesn’t loose any of its aroma or flavour by sitting around.
The Williamsburg branch offers an airy and rustic space which is laptop friendly. There are a number of chairs outside the front of this shop too.
We visited their branch in Dumbo. They also have another branch in Downtown Brooklyn as well as 2 in Manhattan (Flatiron & Midtown).

ACRE
(Williamsburg)
ACRE is a restaurant in Brooklyn with laid-back and welcoming vibes. It promotes healthy yet heart eating through its Japanese methods of preparation. You won’t be disappointed by it’s cute ceramics to browse over out front, pastries on offer and it’s garden out back.
